- While shirts are preferred, you can go with a T-shirt as long as it doesn’t feature any offensive slogans or imagery
- Since shoulders shouldn’t be exposed, vests are not allowed
- If it’s too hot and you would like to wear shorts, pleqse ensure they are level with your knees
How to visit the Baptism Site
The Baptism Site is very easy to get to. It is about a 50 minute drive from Amman and a 20 minute drive from the Dead Sea hotels.
Baptism Site opening times and entrance fees
Starting from 1st of November, the Baptism Site will be open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. (Last entry to the site shall be 4:00pm)
There is a small entrance fee of 12 JOD which helps to maintain the site and covers the costs of free local guides and a free shuttle bus service. This fee is reduced to 8 JOD if you buy your entrance ticket when you buy your Jordan Pass. Make sure you add “Bethany beyond the Jordan” to your cart!
Children under the age of 12 enter the Baptism Site free of charge and there are special discounts for Jordanian nationals and members of the Arab League Countries.
If you turn up without a prepaid ticket and need to opay on the day. we accept cash and all major credit cards.
Baptism Site dress code
Although it covers a vast outdoors area the Baptism Site is a holy site and must be treated with great respect. For this reason we have a dress code.
For men
For women
- It is not permitted to wear sleeveless or low-cut clothing. Belly crop tops are a big no!
- Make sure your shoulders are covered.
- If you’re wearing a skirt, dress, or pair of shorts, make sure they’re at least knee-length.
Baptism Site services and facilities
- Electric club cars with a driver are available upon request. One car can carry up to seven people with a total cost of 30 JD.
- There are toilets for men and women at various points around the site.
- Free cold water is available in the visitors centre.
- At the two areas where visitors can access the River Jordan there are changing rooms and showers.
